Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
